Try this before we go live!

Most golfers lose power and accuracy for one reason. They hang back on their trail foot and never get their weight to the front. It is the single biggest thing separating the modern swing most people fight with from the classic swing that made the greats so consistent.

The drill below gives you a feel for that weight transfer in just a few swings. Work on it now, and when we go live you will already understand the move at the heart of everything I am going to show you.

This drill trains you to move your weight all the way to your lead side instead of hanging back on your trail foot. When you commit to stepping through the shot, the weight transfer becomes impossible to fake, and you start feeling real energy move through the ball.

1
Set up to a ball with a comfortable, normal stance. Start with a short iron and easy swings.
2
Make your backswing the way you normally would, loading into your trail side.
3
Swing down and through, striking the ball.
4
Let the momentum carry you forward. Allow your trail foot to step through and land in front of your lead foot, walking toward the target.
5
Finish with your weight fully on and past your lead side. You should feel like you have moved completely off your back foot.

Coaching cues from Christo

  • The whole point is getting your weight forward. Do not let yourself get caught hanging back.
  • It will feel dramatic, but the ball still flies straight. That is normal.
  • Even though the motion feels exaggerated, your impact position looks normal. The walkthrough just locks the weight shift in.
  • Build up slowly. Start with half swings before you put a full motion on it.

Hit 'em long and hit 'em straight!
